Dilip Balwant Vengsarkar is a former cricketer, captain and administrator of the Indian national cricket team. He was born on 6th April, 1956 in Rajapur, Maharashtra. He was considered one of the modish batsmen in cricket history. He was commonly noted by his nickname Colonel. Vengsarkar has played one hundred sixteen test matches scoring over the six thousand eight hundred runs including a top score of one hundred sixty six runs. He has played one hundred twenty nine one day internationals scoring over the three thousand five hundred runs including a top score of one hundred five runs. He also played two hundred sixty first class matches in his cricket career.
Vengsarkar made his test debut and one day international debut against New Zealand in a same year 1976 and where he was an opening batsman. His last test match was against Australia in the year 1992 and his last one day international was against South Africa in year 1991. Vengsarkar made many centuries against major global teams like Pakistan, Shri Lanka and West Indies etc. Through his outstanding field performance, He won Arjuna Award in year 1981.
He awarded by wisden cricketer of the year 1987 and same year he also decorated by Padma Bhushan by Government of India.
