The current Indian team has new look. After the win in the Twenty World Cup, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named the captain of Indian Cricket team in the one day. Anil Kumble was given the captaincy of the test cricket. Indian team is doing consistently well under both the captain. India won the test series played against Pakistan at home and the one day series too. India then lost the 7 match one day series to world champions Australia 4-2.

But the rivalry crept in between the two sides in that series. The Indian tour of the Australia in the December 2007 was labeled as the most tough test for the world champions. Anil Kumble lead the team very well. India lost badly in the first test at Melbourne. In the second test, series of controversies followed which left the bitterness among the two teams. India lost the test match in Sydney as well because of some very poor umpiring decisions. Indian team bounced back in WACA ground at Perth beating the world champions.

The track at WACA is considered to be the graveyard for the teams from sub continent. India dominated in Adelaide but the test match drew and India lost the series 2-1 but they put on a splendid display of cricket and character amid the controversies to challenge the world champs. Indian Selectors took some brave decisions for the last edition of CB One Day series in Australia. They opted for the young side. As soon as the side was picked there were lots of criticism but Indian one day captain MS Dhoni backed his young side and lead the team excellently. The most notable omissions were of Sourav Ganguly. Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. Indian team lost badly in the Twenty-Twenty match but bounced back to in the CB series. After the washout in the first two games, India beat Australia once and Sri Lanka twice to book the berth in the finals.

In the first final of the tournament Sachin Tendulkar lead to an impeccable win against the World Champions. The master carried on his form and gave India the platform to win the second final and the series. The young boys of Indian team showed lot of maturity, temperament, exuberance and calmness to win something substantial in Australia after the gap of 23 years.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was lauded for the efforts and showing great display of batting in crisis and leadership. The whole team enjoyed each others’ success and jelled really well. The series of controversies continued in the one day series as well but it was young Indian team that had last laugh. The team for the series was as follows:
